OMAKASE BURGER

 photo PB037980_zps8cbc65cf.jpg

Jo, Wayne and I have been talking about Omakase Burger for quite some time so we were quite excited to finally get to try it on Sunday. We tried to manage our expectations though, because we've only been seeing the awesome photos of the place on Instagram and don't really know how good it is. But Joash decided that since he's about to be confined in army for three weeks, we should just go for it.

All of us are curious why a restaurant with a Japanese name is famous for its American burgers, and has American posters for wall decor. But then again, thats not the main point. The food is!

Turns out the burgers are pretty good! Although we all agreed that there wasn't anything that special about them, we did agree that they were delicious.

 photo PB037988_zps857de597.jpg
I ordered the Deluxe Cheeseburger ($15.90), which is their signature cheeseburger but topped with grilled onions and mushrooms. Onions AND mushrooms. I love. It was really delish. The rest of my friends had the Omakase Cheeseburger and the Bacon Cheeseburger. Oh, and when you order your burgers they will ask you how you would like your beef patties. High class fast food. Haha

 photo PB037984_zpseeb22c07.jpg
Cheese fries (Large, $6.90).

 photo PB037983_zps52ab5d47.jpg
Truffle Fries (Large, $7.90).

I will say that I find the prices pretty high for burgers and fries though. The burgers themselves are $13.90 - $17.50. And the meal deal isn't that price friendly either. You basically choose our burger + side + drink and they'll take $1.90 off the combo. If you see the prices for the sides and drinks, thats still pretty expensive! But, for a one-off, I guess thats alright, taking into consideration that I have no doubts about the quality of the food!

Omakase is really close to Pasarbella too, so if you're there to check out Pasarbella, you might want to check out Omakase too!

STANDING SUSHI BAR

 photo P7316031_zps5b382a61.jpg

Firstly, rest assured, there are seats. Hahaha Last Wednesday, I went to try out Standing Sushi Bar with Karin. My sister has been raving about it for a pretty long time. About how good the rolls are, how cheap it is...

 photo P7316032_zpscadada6b.jpg

Now before we move on from what she said, I must tell you, they are only cheap on Wednesdays. I think I got quite the shock when I first looked at the prices, every roll is more than $10, the better ones around $17. But they have a 50% off all rolls and handrolls promotion on Wednesdays at the Bras Basah outlet, so I would say, try them then! With that said, I'm itching to tell you guys how good they are so let's start!

 photo P7316038_zps3a89e295.jpg
Puff the Magic Dragon ($18.90). THIS WAS OUR FAVOURITE. Sorry, I couldn't resist hitting the caps lock key for this. This was our favourite. Firstly, the super cute name is a winner. Hahaha Puff the Magic Dragon has a tempura prawn centre, draped with slice of grilled unagi and topped with roe. This was the first one to arrive at our table and we fell in love at first bite. We sat there in silence and after a while went 'mmm... its so goooood.' The whole thing is just so yummy, with the sauce, and the unagi, and the tempura prawn, and the crunch from the cucumber. Its a party in my mouth. I have so much love for this.

 photo P7316043_zpsaf138688.jpg
Rockstar Roll ($16.90). It has a fried mozzarella cheese stick centre, draped with lightly seared salmon, and topped with mentaiko sauce. This is my sister's favourite and #1 recommendation, and we really did love it! The salmon slices are just lightly seared so you get some raw salmon in there too. We weren't really salmon lovers, but we enjoyed it a lot because its just so tasty. It does lack crunch, so the whole piece just mushes in your mouth, and its so yummy. Look at that cheese oozing out. Mm mm mmmm.

 photo P7316041_zps239cb25d.jpg
Crabby Chicken ($17.90). 3rd on our list! The first two were recommendations from my sister, but this one caught our eye and we were so glad we tried it! In the centre of this sushi roll is fried chicken and soft shell crab, topped with chicken floss and mayo. Its so yummy because you get salty from the filling, and sweet from the floss and yeah, its just delicious.

 photo P7316046_zpsa59969c6.jpg
Crispy Shrimp ($12). This one is the fourth on our list not because it wasn't good, but it just wasn't as flavourful as the others. Its like regular sushi with a tempura prawn in the centre, and the leaves that they rolled the roll in isn't sweet or salty, it just tastes like, well, leafy. Karin did like the taste of the leaves though! I wouldn't recommend you getting this. I would say if you're there to try something different, get another Puff the Magic Dragon or something else. The price difference is worth it, trust me. Haha

Heres a better look at the insides for you. Left to right, top to bottom: Crabby Chicken, Puff the Magic Dragon, Rockstar Roll, Crispy Shrimp.

We left with really happy tummies. We shared the four rolls between us, having 16 pieces each, and we each paid only $18, which we thought was pretty good value for the amount of good food we had.

Just to let you know, there are other promotions on other weekdays:
Mondays- $3 for salmon sashimi (5 slices)
Tuesday - 50% off sushi and sashimi
Wednesdays - 50% off rolls and handrolls

Thursdays - $3 for salmon sashimi (5 slices)
There are drink promotions on some of the days too! Check here for more details!
Remember these promotions are only for the Bras Basah/
8 Queen St outlet!

Hmm... I'm thinking that theres a high chance I'll bump into some of you guys there on a Wednesday. Hahaha Have a yumtastic time if you do go! :)

PASARBELLA

 photo pasarbella02_zps4f7ff83e.jpg

Have you heard of Pasarbella? It opened its doors in May but it sure was the first time I had heard of it when I visited it back in June.

 photo pasarbella16_zps78a93a42.jpg
Pasarbella is located at a corner of The Grandstand, at the former Turf City. Its like a little indoor farmers' market. My first thought was that it reminded me of Perth's Fremantle Market, which I visited last year. Its definitely a place that takes you out of Singapore. The whole place is decorated with a vintage feel, full of wooden crates & barrels, beautiful walls with bricks and vintage images, and live music (sometimes) resonates throughout from a guy who plays his guitar and sings at the Dottinghill booth. Its a lovely place.

 photo pasarbella03_zps8ce99c24.jpg photo pasarbella19_zpsde1db238.jpg
As with all farmers' markets, you can expect tons of organic produce. Everything looks so fresh, especially the fruits. And I don't like fruits, mind you, but look at that beautiful array of colour! There was also a large shop selling organic products such as soaps and such. But really, the most of Pasarbella is all about food, food, food!

 photo pasarbella04_zps44551658.jpg photo pasarbella18_zpsb43d947b.jpg photo pasarbella10_zpsca1a0f89.jpg photo pasarbella13_zpsec4c12cf.jpg photo pasarbella17_zps1b99a851.jpg photo pasarbella11_zps3b6255be.jpg
These are only just some of the shops, there are a lot of stalls in a whole other section that were selling yummy cooked food. We didn't eat our lunch there, but there sure were many people who were! I was carrying my baby niece as we walked through that section so I didn't have hands to pull out the camera.

 photo pasarbella14_zps36058bb4.jpg photo pasarbella15_zps61a4124e.jpg photo pasarbella09_zpsd2ca5b71.jpg
You could even grab a cup of freshly brewed coffee! Or beer, whichever works for you hahaha.
  photo pasarbella05_zps3dc83b41.jpg photo pasarbella06_zps02ce182d.jpg photo pasarbella12_zps31b1218e.jpg photo pasarbella08_zps7aa99127.jpg photo pasarbella07_zpsb20ed63b.jpg
There are also a few other interesting stalls, such as a crazy balloon shop with so many, so many types of balloons, a stall selling all kinds of wooden decorative and storage items, and a Dottinghill booth! If you don't know about Dottinghill, they sell temporary tattoos designed by, well, anyone! There is a community of artists and voters that decide on the tattoos that get made, its the same system as Threadless. The designs are really gorgeous and we got some for ourselves and our niece that day! There was also this other shop selling brightly coloured tableware and all sorts of kitchen items. Really pretty.

 photo pasarbella01_zpsaef4da88.jpg

Overall, Pasarbella was a nice and warm little place. There were a lot of people, but it wasn't too crowded for a Saturday afternoon. The shop owners were really friendly and the whole place was a feast for the eyes. I just can't seem to stop looking around at the products, the decorations, the walls, everything. Haha Its a place you should go check out if you can! :)

BACON & BOOZE

 photo P5054995_zpse9ea22f4.jpg photo P5055012_zps7b1b4533.jpg photo BampB02_zpsed4ff93f.jpg photo P5055007_zps0bf9f0b3.jpg photo P5055015_zps2db39e04.jpg photo P5055022_zpsbfd6f5c9.jpg photo BampB01_zps93aa303f.jpg photo P5055042_zps1bc69005.jpg photo P5055044_zpsc61ab734.jpg photo P5055046_zpsc39bf76d.jpg

I know this post took a bit long to be put up but here it is!
After prawning, Jo Mo and I went to the nearby Bacon & Booze for dinner. It was right at the end of Punggol Road. It was a little early, so we explored Punggol Promenade for a while, and also the surrounding area.

Bacon & Booze is located in what seems like a little rustic cowboy town. Its actually the Punggol Ranch owned by Gallop Stables, which will soon be a place for horse riding and other activities like outdoor laser tag by Combat Skirmish. It also has wagon like cabins that you will be able to rent, like chalets! You can read more about that whole area here. The three of us felt a slight sadness for the horses though, seeing them pulling the carriage around and around repeatedly made us feel depressed. Especially when the horse struggled against the reins to hold its head up, and let out neighing noises that, well, really made us feel for them.

Back to Bacon & Booze. It was a nice and cozy little place, and the guys said the drinks were cheap and good (they have pretty good happy hours!). But I feel it just lacked a little on the food side. The fish and chips we had were just alright. Although the guys said they would go back for the drinks. Also I feel that the ambience was just right, and I kinda liked it.

That concludes my very eventful (last) Sunday outing. I attended an extremely wonderful wedding this weekend, and am probably at Legoland with my favourite people as you are reading this, so be prepared for more photo heavy posts the next few days! :)

LOYSEL'S TOY

 photo P4194685_zps550076cb.jpg photo P4194703_zps9d49c1a7.jpg photo P4194672_zps42ef33bd.jpg photo loysels01_zps554343e4.jpg photo loysels02_zpscfbde6e3.jpg photo loysels03_zps91793306.jpg photo loysels04_zps3b73fad9.jpg photo P4194671_zps7e9a58be.jpg photo P4194659_zpsff49544c.jpg photo P4194667_zps5c0937cf.jpg photo P4194662_zpsfd271ff0.jpg photo P4194674_zps5408ff53.jpg photo P4194680_zps0c90e535.jpg photo P4194689_zps4e4e5e83.jpg photo P4194687_zpsa49e802b.jpg photo P41946932_zps05da8970.jpg

My wish for food and gatherings everyday came true! (for the past two days at least!) My schoolmates and I went down to Loysel's Toy after class on Friday to have brunch. It was a lovely and cozy little cafe, with vintage furniture and display pieces decorating the space. I especially love the bar stools covered with varied vintage patterned fabric. There isn't much indoor seating, but there are also seating areas outside. For a place that is quite 'ulu' or in the middle of no where (unless you're driving), it was pretty crowded when we were there! So I would say to try to come before or after the lunch hour so that its easier to get a seat.

The cafe is known for its coffee, but being someone who doesn't really like coffee, I didn't try it. I opted for the mushroom cream pasta, which was pretty good, but the cream is a bit rich so it got a bit 'gelat' after awhile. The breakfast set (Big L's Breakfast) that my other friends had looked good though! Although my friend who had the poached eggs felt it was slightly dry. I love that they had complimentary caramel biscuits on the side; you're supposed to have it with your coffee, but it made a great before-after meal snack for me! Heehee Chloe said they had other things on the menu the last time she came so I would love to go back and see if they serve even yummier things!

I'm so glad school's out! The next two weeks are exam weeks and then I'm really looking forward to my two week holiday! I have to make full use of it before the Summer Semester starts, especially since Moses is going to enlist in army soon. :( Eunice

Calling all friends: let's meet up for food and catch ups! :D
