OH, THE HECTIC LIFE.

Photobucket

Life has been pretty much like so this month. If there wasn't project work, there were important tests and exams or difficult essays to complete. But only for three more weeks! On my final day of exams I'm already scheduled to be at the filming of a (secret) short clip, and the week after I've signed myself up for a stamp carving workshop! Even though I already carve my own stamps, I've been looking forward to attend one of Handmade Movement SG's craft parties so I'm going just for the fun of it, and I'm sure I'll pick up great tips!

Alongside all the exciting upcoming plans, I must share that I also gave up some great opportunities for experience. While I wish I didn't have to, I wanted to be able to make time for meeting up with friends and accomplishing my projects to-do list in the longest break I would get in my school year (1 month!). Its kind of depressing to think I won't be having a 3 month break like my friends in other Universities, but I'll pull through... I hope!

Alright, I've got to go hit the books now, but when my December break comes, there will definitely be more activity around here so you can be sure to look forward to that!! Eunice

DIY DATE BUNTING

So remember this post back in August? Well, today I bring you the long delayed DIY post on the date bunting! Yipee! This was one of my favourites, cause we just winged it, and the results were worth it. My mum helped me out with this project (cause I have yet to really know how to work the sewing machine), and I can say she really liked it too! So here goes~

I felt that making a plan was important cause I wanted to be able to see what it would look like, and also, I wasn't making it for myself so I had to get some approvals!

I can't emphasize how important I think templates are for uniformity. They also make the job much simpler and quicker to do! Here I did a 6" base 8" height triangle, with about an inch or more or extensions at each side.

Ironing it down is a crucial step to not screaming in frustration and tossing the triangles across the room after attempting to feed through the sewing machine. Trust me on that. Haha!

Yay! And here's what it looked like in daylight, during the shoot!

Definitely one of my favourite projects so far, and most accomplishing... for some reason! Eunice

TABLET ON A MAC

Photobucket

So just this morning, out of no where, I was suddenly very attracted to the idea of having a graphic tablet. I used to have a tablet for a laptop but it's hardly working now, and I regret not using it to its full potential then. I want it to add handwriting to my photos, draw and design, transfer my ideas from paper to digital. And when I want to do something, I kind of get obsessed with the idea. So tonight I got so excited because I found a way to do the very bare minimum right on my mac, for free.  But as you can see from my shaky lines, I'm in need of way more practice to get used to it, and maybe a proper stylus pen. Check out my other attempts!

It was actually way more interesting than I expected! :D But one day I'll get around to getting a proper graphic tablet. The awesomest looking one out there that I'm attracted to is $999... So I guess this method will have to do for now! :)

DIY EXPLODING SCRAPBOOK BOX

Photobucket

So the other day I dug up an envelope, which was in a file, which was in a drawer so stuffed that I had trouble pulling the file out. In this envelope I found all the little notes my JC classmates wrote for me during graduation, and it bothered me. I needed to do something to make sure they didn't disappear into the corner of my drawer. So I decided to go with an exploding scrapbook box. Want to see how it explodes? ...

Photobucket

Yeahhhh not much impact there but you get the idea. Another person would be very much surprised when they first open it! Its a box that opens up into a 12" by 12" scrapbook page, and I stuck all the precious notes in it.

The idea is to take a 12" by 12" sheet of cardstock, and divide it into nine squares, each of which would be folded later on. From there you decide if you want to have joining squares (eg.top row, bottom-left two squares, two squares on the right), or just single squares (eg. center-left), and then to cut the slits accordingly. After which you can fold along the lines of each square.

To make the cover, measure a square with 4.2" sides. This gave it an extra 0.2" so that the cover would fit over the box nicely, although you could try it with 0.1" because 0.2" feels slightly loose on the box. Add about 1" all around whole square, so as to make the sides. Use the extra corners to stick the sides together, and you've got the cover done!

Now all you have to do is decorate it! You can do it like a scrapbook page, with pictures and all, but here are some examples of what you can do if you want to add in journaling on little notes! :) (I added stickers of words that described the friends that wrote those individual notes. ^^)

Now this box of precious notes is sitting on my shelf and every once in a while I only have to reach out for it and think of my friends while reading what they wrote. There's a number that remind me not to give up, who also told me to do my math, a few that are so sweet, one that makes me laugh a bit, one that seems so skeptical, many that make me smile and one that warms my heart and makes me tear up every time. But all make me feel a bit of heartache. Everyone's gone on to do their own thing now, and I do miss them so. I love you all no matter how split up our class was. <3

HAPPY MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL!

Photobucket

As much as I wish to be at the downstairs playground playing with lanterns, candles, and sparklers, I'm a bit too old for that. I can imagine the looks the little kids and their parents would give me if I walked down there with my lantern. Haha Well, I thank God for my friends who wouldn't be embarrassed if we all played together. One day we shall do that. Next year, or the next, or the next. :) Eunice
